The Crosby Housing & Redevelopment Authority (HRA) was founded in the 1960's under the auspices of the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Dellwood apartment building was occupied in 1972 and the Edgewood complex was completed in 1978.
The Crosby HRA manages the Dellwood-Edgewood complex of 100 single bedroom apartments and twenty family homes with 2, 3, and 4 bedrooms.
The Crosby Housing Authority operates under the direction of an Executive Director, an Assistant Executive Director, and a five-person Board of Commissioners. Employed by the Authority are a full-time maintenance and cleaning staff, and an Activities Director. Providing assistance and communication are a head tenant for each building and an effective tenant council.
Personal warmth, cordiality, welfare, safety and expenses are concerns shared by every tenant and are quickly and effectively addressed by the Crosby HRA's Executive Staff, Commissioners, head tenants and employees. Every effort is extended to ensure a tenant's welcome, comfort and safety at a moderate cost.
Tenant rent is based upon 30% of income, and handicapped accessible apartments are available which are wheelchair adapted. Assisted living arrangements can be made at Dellwood-Edgewood with the cooperation of the Cuyuna Range Medical Center and may also incorporate assistance from Crow Wing County Social Services. Assisted living can be available on a 24-hour, 7-day basis, completely at the determination of the client. In Federally Assisted Housing, tenants have rights and responsibilities, and paramount among them are full income-asset disclosure, and consideration of ones' neighbors. One is mandatory, the other is highly preferred. All prospective tenants are thoroughly screened.
Public housing is a home and not an institution. The apartments are private and secure, and tenants are free to come and go as they wish at any hour. Crosby Public Housing serves primarily the limited income elderly and physically challenged, but most qualified low income persons can be served depending on availability.
